Beyla / OBI (eBPF auto-instrumentation)
Grafana Beyla, and its OpenTelemetry upstream (OBI), instrument HTTP and gRPC services without code changes and export OTLP. Watchtower only receives that OTLP; it does not run or bundle Beyla. Needs an ingestion key with ingest:traces and ingest:metrics.
# Beyla runs privileged on the host (or as a DaemonSet); it picks the service by port.
export BEYLA_OPEN_PORT=8080
export BEYLA_SERVICE_NAME=checkout
export OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT=https://ingest.example.com:4318
export OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_PROTOCOL=http/protobuf
export OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_HEADERS="Authorization=Bearer ${WT_INGEST_KEY}"
export OTEL_RESOURCE_ATTRIBUTES="deployment.environment=production,service.version=${RELEASE}"
beylaSet deployment.environment and service.version: the environment and release views use them. Do not set wt.* attributes; the gateway deletes them. Delivery is at-least-once.
Status: structure-checked against Beyla's documented OTEL_* variables, not run against a live Beyla. Check option names against your Beyla version. Known gap G-18: there is no SAP agent.
