Pocket Camera adds variable focus on Halcyon One Pro

Halcyon Newsroom · 1 min read

A free update to Pocket Camera unlocks the variable-aperture lens on Halcyon One Pro, giving filmmakers true optical background blur on a phone.

Pocket Camera now exposes the full f/1.4 to f/4 range on Halcyon One Pro.

The variable-aperture lens has been in Halcyon One Pro since launch. Until today it adjusted itself; now filmmakers can set it by hand, pull focus between subjects, and lock exposure while they do.

Designed for a crew of one

Pocket Camera’s new Focus Rail sits along the edge of the viewfinder. Tap two subjects to set marks, then slide between them while recording — the app eases the transition the way a follow-focus wheel would.

“I shot a short film on a bicycle with no crew. The rail made it feel like I had a focus puller riding next to me.” — Teo Varga, director

What’s new in this update

  • Manual aperture control from f/1.4 to f/4

  • Focus Rail with up to four marks

  • Waveform and false-color exposure tools

  • Recording directly to an external drive in Log

Availability

Pocket Camera 3.2 is available today as a free update for Halcyon One Pro and Halcyon One Pro Max.
