Terms of service

Last updated · Edition 1

Draft 2026-11-01, pending owner review. Not legal advice; the owner reviews this before it is relied on.

Who these terms cover

These terms apply when you create a Watchtower account or send telemetry to a Watchtower project. If you use Watchtower for an organization, you accept them for that organization.

The service

Watchtower is an observability service: it receives traces, logs, metrics, errors, uptime checks, profiles, browser (RUM) events and optional session replays, stores them, and lets you search, alert on and share them. Watchtower is hosted only.

Your account and your data

  • You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping API keys and tokens secret. Watchtower shows a secret once and stores only a hash of it.

  • You own the telemetry you send. You give Watchtower the right to store, process and display it to provide the service to you and the people you grant access to. How we handle personal data in it is described in the privacy policy and the data processing agreement.

  • Do not send data you have no right to send. Mask or drop personal data you do not need; replay masks all text and inputs by default.

Plans and limits

Quotas, retention and check intervals depend on the plan or license that applies to your organization. When a limit is reached, the API refuses the request and says which limit it was.

Acceptable use

You agree to the acceptable use policy.

Availability and changes

Delivery of telemetry is at least once; duplicates are removed where the pipeline can, and we do not promise exactly-once. Live service status is on the status page. We may change the service and these terms; material changes are announced in the changelog or by email.

Ending the service

You can delete a project, which removes its data under the retention and deletion rules in the privacy policy, or stop using the service at any time. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy.

Liability

To be completed by the owner: warranty disclaimer, liability cap, governing law and contact details.
