Start fresh, but make one index note that links to the ten imported notes you actually use. Search finds the other 2,990 when you need them.

It was next to the vault. Moved it in and 2,950 images appeared at once. The rest fixed after rebuilding links. Thank you!

Thanks for the clear report. It is fixed in 2.8.2, which is in App Store review now. Your vault is untouched — it is a launch crash, nothing is written.
