Build a small task tracker, run it on your machine with a real Postgres, and put it on the internet. It takes about ten minutes, and nothing here costs money on the free plan.
Before you start
Node.js 20 or later, or Bun 1.1 or later
A terminal and a code editor
A Strata account (sign-up is free, and no card is asked for)
Scaffold the project
- Create the app
Run the scaffolder and pick the Task tracker template when it asks.
npm create strata@latest my-tasks - Start everything locally
strata devboots Postgres, object storage and your app together, with hot reload.cd my-tasks npx strata dev - Run your first query
Open
app/tasks.ts. The query below is already typed from your contract.app/tasks.ts import { db } from "./strata/db"; export async function openTasks() { return db.task.where({ done: false }).orderBy({ createdAt: "desc" }).all(); } - Deploy
Log in once, then deploy. The first deploy provisions a database, a bucket and a service.
npx strata login npx strata deploy
When the deploy finishes, the CLI prints your app's address. Open it — the tasks you created locally are not there, because production has its own database.
