per repository or per account?
Per account. The usage page shows how many you have left.

Does this work with notebooks?

One agent rewrote our retry helper, ran the suite, and caught its own bug before opening the PR. Pretty wild to watch.
Starting today, background agents are available on the Free and Pro plans, not just Teams.
A background agent takes a task, clones your repository into an isolated sandbox, works on a branch and opens a pull request when it is done. You can keep coding while it runs, and you can watch or steer it at any time from the agents panel.
