Illustrating the Assistant
Kiln Design · 1 min read
How dynamic visual cues help people discover, learn and trust an evolving assistant
An assistant that changes every month is hard to draw. Any picture of what it can do is out of date before it ships.
Instead of illustrating features, we illustrated states: listening, thinking, unsure, done.
Draw the states, not the features
Each state became a small motion study in the same deep blue, so people learned the vocabulary once and kept it.
People don't need to know how it works. They need to know what it's doing right now.
A vocabulary that grows
The illustrations now ship with the model, not the app, so they change when it does.
